In an interview with Nishinippon Shimbun, Chief Operating Officer of Nissan Motor Toshiyuki Shiga said that the company wants to maintain production at its plant in Kanda, Kitakyushu in the half million range. Nissan Motor Kyushu and Nissan Shatai Kyushu both produced record numbers of vehicles—561,000 and 106,000 respectively—in fiscal 2012. While Nissan Motor is expanding production overseas, the company still maintains a million vehicle target for Japanese production. “We want Kyushu to keep producing half of our vehicles in Japan, and we will continue investing in the operation,” said Shiga.
