At a press conference on May 29, the Mayor of Kitakyushu City announced his intention to levy an accommodation tax on hotel and ryokan guests. This comes after the agreement between Fukuoka City and Fukuoka Prefecture on double taxation and the division of it. Meanwhile, the prefecture was planning to individually collect ¥200 from each guest and pass on half to the local governments for municipalities other than Fukuoka City. Kitakyushu City is suggesting the introduction of its own accommodation tax using the same system as Fukuoka City. Source: NHK News Web, 5/29/2019
