NTT Subsidiary’s Leak Affects Fukuoka Residents

The personal information of approximately 140,000 taxpayers linked to automobile tax call center operations in Fukuoka Prefecture may have been leaked. The breach comes after a former temp worker from an NTT West Japan subsidiary illegally released around 9 million customer records. Governor Hattori, in a press conference, deeply apologized for the inconvenience and distress caused. He assured that efforts are underway to identify the compromised data and notify affected individuals. The prefecture, in collaboration with law enforcement, has set up a countermeasure team and is urging municipalities to be alert against suspicious calls. As of now, no damage reports have been received. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture / NHK
