A Kyushu-produced sparkling wine won the Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2019. Ajimu, a winery in Oita, made its first entry into an international award organized by a British wine and wine-lifestyle media, Decanter. Amongst 3,155 wines and sparkling wines participated from 34 countries. Ajimu’s 2017 Chardonnay Extra Brut sparkling wine won a gold medal and distinction as the first Japanese product to do so. The owner of the brewery, Sanwa Shurui Co., Ltd., announced the achievement on November 7. Source: Decanter.com, 9/30/2019
