Okinawa Has Highest Infection Per Capita – Fukuoka City Crosses 2,000

On August 17, Fukuoka Prefecture announced 50 more cases of the new coronavirus infection, bringing the prefecture’s cumulative total to 3,683. On the same day, the death of a COVID-19 patient in her nineties was reported; however, no new instances were found in the cities of Kurume and Kitakyushu. On the other hand, Fukuoka City reported over 40 infections for the second straight day, involving four residents in their nineties and two in their seventies. The cumulative total for Fukuoka City topped 2,000 as of August 15. Additionally, in Okinawa Prefecture, the number of new infections per 100,000 population continues to top the national ranking. The State Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare, Gaku Hashimoto, visited the prefecture on August 16. He explained to the prefectural governor, Denny Tamaki, that the central Government would prepare additional medical nurses and healthcare workers to the area as soon as possible.
