Okinawa Tourism Recovers to 95% of Pre-Pandemic Levels in 2024

Okinawa welcomed 9.66 million visitors in 2024, a 17% year-on-year increase and the third-highest total on record, reaching 95% of pre-pandemic levels from 2019. Domestic tourism hit a record high for the second consecutive year with 7.53 million visitors, driven by favorable travel conditions such as additional flights and the absence of typhoon disruptions. International arrivals more than doubled from 2023, reaching 2.12 million, although they remain at 70% of 2019 levels due to limited routes to mainland China. Okinawa anticipates further growth in 2025 with new flight routes and large cruise ship arrivals. Source: Okinawa Prefecture
