Online Access Surpasses 90% in Fukuoka City Administration

Fukuoka City, aiming to make its services more accessible to citizens, has been transitioning to digital platforms for administrative procedures. The city recently announced that over 90% (about 92.1%) of the procedures it handled in the last fiscal year can now be done online. This includes approximately 10.2 million individual tasks. Despite this progress, only about half of these digital-capable procedures were actually carried out online.

To promote the adoption of the digital platform and alleviate physical congestion at service counters, the city is actively urging its residents to take advantage of the online services. Moreover, the city has established a ‘Digital Improvement Suggestion Box’ on its website to gather feedback from citizens and businesses about any analog procedures they find inconvenient.

This initiative has already led to digitalization decisions such as enabling online applications for childcare services. Mayor Takashima expressed his hopes that this digital transition would not only decrease the workload of city staff but also free up manpower to be directed towards welfare services and areas needing a more personal touch.
