A Shinto ceremony was held on the 1st for those in the fishing industry marking the start of the season for catching the etsu (Coilia nasus) in Okawa, Fukuoka Prefecture. The fish, which is found only in the Ariake Sea and the lower parts of the Chikugo River in Japan, is considered a delicacy. Mature fish are about 20 centimeters long and served in restaurants and on pleasure cruises until July 20.
