Opening Date For Fukuoka City Subway Extension Announced

The section of the Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line from Tenjin-Minami Station to Hakata Station, which is still under construction, will open on March 27 next year. According to the announcement, a 1.4-kilometer section of the Nanakuma Subway Line from Tenjin-Minami Station in Chuo-ku to Hakata Station in Hakata-ku will open on March 27 next year. Presently, visitors to Hakata Station by subway have to walk from Tenjin-Minami Station on the Nanakuma Line to Tenjin Station on the Airport Line to change trains, but the direct connection will cut travel time by about 14 minutes. A new “Kushida Shrine Station” will be constructed between Tenjin Minami Station and Hakata Station. With the opening of the extended section, the number of daily passengers between Tenjin-Minami Station and Hakata Station is expected to increase by more than 20,000 to 82,000. The city expects the new line to increase convenience and ease traffic congestion in the city center and on the Airport Subway Line. Source: Fukuoka City Subway / NHK
