Daily coronavirus cases in Fukuoka Prefecture hit record highs for three consecutive days between May 7 and 9. On May 9, the prefecture reported a daily count of 529, including 284 in Fukuoka City, 64 in Kitakyushu, and 58 in Kurume. Three more deaths linked to the virus were reported, bringing the death toll to 372. The number of new infections has been soaring across Kyushu, including four more prefectures reporting their largest daily counts on May 8 (Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, and Oita.) As of May 9, Miyazaki Prefecture announced its independent state of emergency from May 10. Residents of the entire prefecture would be requested to refrain from non-essential outings and gatherings with people who do not live with them.
