With the official rankings announced for the November Grand Sumo Tournament, scheduled to open on November 10 at Fukuoka Kokusai Center, Ozeki Onosato expressed his ambitions for the upcoming event. Young wrestlers from various stables gathered early at 6 a.m. to collect freshly printed ranking sheets, signifying the start of preparations.
After achieving 13 victories and winning the Makuuchi division title last tournament, Onosato earned a historic promotion, reaching Ozeki status faster than any wrestler since the Showa era from a Makushita debut. Speaking on his new title, Onosato shared, “Seeing my ranking gave me a true sense of being an Ozeki.”
Onosato had to step back from the autumn tour due to health issues but is gradually resuming training. He aims to end the year on a high note, hoping to deliver a strong performance at the November tournament, which will run until November 24. Source: Nihon Sumo Kyokai / KBC
