On October 4, another road leading up to Mount Aso reopened after a year and a half, allowing one-way traffic to pass through. The 11 km Yoshida prefectural road known as Minami Tozan-do which stretches from Minamiaso to the top of Mount Aso, had been closed following the huge landslides caused by last year’s Kumamoto earthquakes. The drive through this road reduces the driving time for vehicles by half. On the day, cars of local business owners entered the road to great cheers. The Eastern Minami Tozan-do, a road that greatly reduces the traveling for vehicles passing north to south through the Mount Aso area, also reopened only from 7:00 to 19:00 on the same day.
