Partial Evacuation of Toshimamura Following Earthquakes

A strong earthquake hit the island chain of Tokara, Kagoshima Prefecture, on Dec. 9. The quake with a shindo scale of 5 (magnitude 6.1) occurred in the same area, which experienced over 230 earthquakes in the preceding five days. Japan Meteorological Agency warns of the risk of another major quake for the next few to several weeks. The Toshimamura Island of the chain is assisting with the evacuation of residents to Kagoshima City and Amami City. Source: Nikkei / NHK
