Plans to Privatize Kumamoto Airport

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism plans to privatize Kumamoto Airport by April 2020. The ministry will listen to offers from companies who want to operate the facility, review the proposals put forward, and then decide which bid will be awarded priority in negotiations. Kumamoto Prefecture wants to promote the use of the airport to help with the ongoing reconstruction efforts that have been taking place since the huge earthquakes that hit the area in 2016. Kyushu Industrial Transportation Holdings are planning to submit a joint proposal together with Kyushu Electric Power Company (Kyuden) and other local businesses. The Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd. are currently gathering information about Kumamoto Airport and are also looking at the possibility of entering the bidding process. Source: Yomiuri Shimbun, 3/17/2018
