Plans to Restore Damaged Sections of Hitahikosan Train Line

JR Kyushu announced their intention to start talks with Fukuoka and Oita Prefectures to repair damaged sections of the Hitahikosan Line. These sections were damaged during the torrential downpours which badly affected northern Kyushu last summer. After visiting the Fukuoka and the Oita Prefectural Governors in mid-February, JR Kyushu President Toshihiko Aoyagi expressed the need for the concerned parties to work together. The damage caused by the extreme weather conditions meant that there are still suspensions between Soeda and Yoake Station. JR Kyushu expects the large-scale work, which will include the reconstruction of five bridges, to cost approximately ¥7 billion. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 3/1/2018
