JR Kyushu is considering running the new N700S train along a part of the Nagasaki shinkansen line set to open in 2022. If implemented, the N700 model would operate between Nagasaki and Takeo-Onsen Station, which will serve as a connecting point between standard express trains and the shinkansen line. Plans are currently in place for the N700S, which has been developed by JR Tokai, to go into commercial use on the Tokaido shinkansen line in 2020. The N700S is seen as an easily adjustable, flexible option because its carriages do not have to come in pairs, as is usually the case with shinkansen trains.
