Port of Hakata Reports Record Number of Shipping Containers

The Port of Hakata announced on January 31 that their facility handled more than one million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) for the first time in 2018. Metal products were among the major imports into Hakata, while industrial machinery was one of the main exports. The port dealt with 950,000 international TEUs in 2018, which represents a 3% increase on the 2017 figure. This is the second consecutive year a record number of international maritime containers have gone through the port. The facility also dealt with approximately 80,000 domestic containers.
