Prefecture to Discuss Relocation of Art Museum

Fukuoka Prefecture has finalized plans to establish a New Art Museum Concept Review Committee in FY2015. The committee will discuss relocating the aging Prefectural Art Museum located in 5 Tenjin to a new facility in Ohori Park as part of the joint Prefecture-City Central Park Plan that aims to unify the cultural and historical assets in Ohori and Maizuru Parks. Ohori Park is currently administered by the Prefecture, while Maizuru Park is managed by the City. The plan calls forthe creation of four zones within the two park area and includes a variety of initiatives, such as new paths connecting the parks and the reconstruction of Fukuoka Castle. Governor Ogawa said he wants the committee to discuss the future of the Art Museum in relation to the Central Park Plan, including the division of functions with the existing facilities.
