Fukuoka Prefecture has signed an agreement with a company to build a factory for next-generation quantum dots technology in Itoshima City. Shoei Chemical Industry (Tokyo) will invest about six billion yen to build a new plant in Itoshima City Research Park to produce and develop quantum dots, a light-emitting material. The plant is scheduled to start operation in October 2021. Quantum dots are a next-generation material used in TV displays and other applications that emit light and do not rely on rare earths, so demand is expected to increase in the future. The agreement with Fukuoka Prefecture includes cooperation in regional revitalization and job creation. Shoei Chemical Industry expects to employ about 50 local workers.
