On Apr. 28, Fukuoka Prefecture reported a record-setting 440 new coronavirus infections. The prefectural government has become increasingly alarmed as the positive screening rate for the new virus strains soared to around 80% during the week between Apr. 19 ~ 25. While the overall hospital-bed occupancy rate for the prefecture stood at 49.4% as of Apr. 27, that for Kurume City exceeded 90% due to the regional spike in the number of new infections. In the city, only fifteen beds remain empty as of the morning of Apr. 28. The regional number of COVID-19 patients per 100,000 population reportedly surpassed that of Osaka and Tokyo. Daily cases for Apr. 28 include 215 infections in Fukuoka City, where cluster infections were reported at a call center. Also, class closures have been announced at seven municipal elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools as 1 ~ 2 infections were found among the pupils and students. Source: NHK
