Car production by four vehicle manufacturers in Kyushu marked a record high for the fiscal year of 2018. A total of 1,436,000 vehicles were produced at the factories of Toyota, Daihatsu, and Nissan. In addition to strong sales of the new Lexus series by Toyota, the continued popularity of SUV models in Japan and other Asian countries as well as strong demand for compact cars are thought to have pushed up the number. High production of automobiles is expected to continue through the fiscal year of 2019. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 4/25/2019
