The redevelopment of the Kagoshima Station area is steadily proceeding with an eye to the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen Line in 2011. Local real estate developer Nangoku Corp. announced plans to erect two new buildings in the district. One will be a nine-story office building with a total floor area of 20,500 square meters. The other will be a 14-story multiple purpose building, in which the Nishi-Nihon Railroad Co. (Nishitetsu) plans to operate a hotel.
