Fukuoka Prefecture recorded its lowest number of homeless individuals since surveys began in 2003, with 154 people counted as of January 2025—a drop of nine from the previous year and an 88% decrease from the peak in 2009. The annual count, commissioned by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, aims to support self-reliance among the homeless. Fukuoka City had the highest number at 114, followed by Kitakyushu with 36. Men made up the majority (140), with 14 women. Nearly half of those surveyed were living in commercial or port facilities, while urban parks accounted for about 29%. Authorities attribute the decline to enhanced support efforts and plan to continue collaborating with municipalities for further assistance. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture
