Ken’ichi Morimoto, a retired postal worker from Mashiki-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture, has become the star of a French movie titled Monsieur Morimoto. Morimoto retired from the postal service in 2000 and went to Paris by himself to pursue his dream of becoming an artist. The director conceived of the movie after he met Morimoto in an art gallery. It is the first time Morimoto has ever performed as an actor. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May, during which Morimoto made a personal appearance.
