Ringer Hut to Introduce Company-wide Day Off

The Nagasaki champon chain Ringer Hut has agreed to introduce a company-wide holiday in response to trade union demands. The company currently operates approximately 670 Ringer Hut restaurants and a further 100 branches of Tonkatsu Hamakatsu. This is the first time they have closed all their branches on the same day for 35 years. However, deciding on a day is expected to be difficult given that many restaurants operate inside shopping centers and other multi-purpose facilities. Throughout Japan, restaurant chains have been finding it increasingly difficult to remain open throughout the year due to significant labor shortages in the industry. Sushiro also closed for two days in February earlier this year to give employees time off. Source: TBS News, 3/20/2019
