On Aug. 29, the first of six new tenants will open in Eeny meeny miny mo, the core store in the Hakata Riverain shopping complex. Popular cooking supply store Kayanoya will open a shop/”live kitchen” in the first floor entrance, and the Anpanman Children’s Museum is scheduled to open a Fukuoka branch next spring. Hakata Riverain opened as a shopping center for luxury brands, but it has struggled financially. In Feb. 2012, Takashimaya subsidiary Toshin Development acquired a controlling interest in the facility and changed tack to make Hakata Riverain “a facility for everyday use”. It began changing tenants and saw visitor numbers increased by more than 10% every monthly since Sept. 2012. Other new tenants to enter the facility include PG Gauze, which sells gauze baby clothes and towels, and Maison de Famille, a French interior goods store making its first foray into Kyushu.
