MOL Ferry Co., Ltd. and Nippon Express announced that their RORO cargo ship, which runs between Tokyo and Hakata six times a week, will start to dock at Oita twice a week (Friday and Saturday) from November 3. The RORO uses a highly efficient roll-on-roll-off system, which means that it can carry large trailers filled with cargo. The new route will take the ship 24 hours to get to Oita, which is nine hours less than Hakata. This development will help with logistics in the eastern part of Kyushu and could create new jobs in the area. Developing new routes of transportation is important at present due to major shortage of drivers involved in cargo and the movement of goods. Source: Oita Godo Shimbun, 6/27/2017
