Gabba, a singing group consisting of eight Saga Prefecture grandmothers, appeared Saturday at the Shanghai World Expo to promote tourism in their prefecture on Saga Prefecture Day. The group, whose oldest member is 93, has given about 150 performances in Japan on TV shows and events. It was formed after the city of Takeo in the prefecture was chosen as a location for the television series ‘‘Saga No Gabai Bachan’’, based on a childhood memoir by Japanese comedian Yoichi Shimada.
