Saga Prefecture Wants to Outsource Forestry Work

Saga Prefecture announced it has launched a project to encourage private companies and local municipalities interested in forest preservation to become involved in forest thinning and planting. Man-made forests account for 66% of the forest land in the prefecture, the highest in Japan. Local forestry companies are suffering declines in profitability due to imported lumber, and the number of workers in this sector is declining. Companies will receive naming rights to forests if they perform this work under contract.
