Saga University Team Identifies Insect Immune Substances

A team of researchers led by Prof. Yoichi Hayakawa has used moth larvae, which are harmful to cereal crops, to discover insect immune substances that heal external wounds, and to identify their molecular structure. These substances are also used in the form of antibodies to prevent insect death. Prof. Hayakawa says the discovery might lead to the development of agricultural chemicals with no adverse affects on humans.
