A survey of Japan’s 47 prefectures by weather site Weathernews found that Sagans sleep in the coldest rooms at night. The survey was conducted online in January and asked questions about room temperatures at night and in the morning, power saving measures, ways people keep warm and so on. A total of 66,487 people answered from all 47 prefectures. Averaging 13.1 degrees at bedtime, Sagans’ bedrooms were the coldest in Japan, with Oita coming in 3rd place at 13.4 degrees, and Miyazaki in 6th place with 14.3 degrees. The lowest temperature upon waking up in the morning was 8.8 degrees in Nagano, but Oita, Miyazaki and Saga took the next three spots with temperatures of 9.0, 9.4 and 9.7 degrees respectively. According to the survey results, one reason Kyushuans sleep in colder rooms is because they use hot water bottles and try to save electricity in the winter. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 2/8
