A sake brewery tour will be held on Mar. 30 and 31 in Kashima, Saga prefecture, offering visitors a chance to sample fresh sake. With six brewers in the city, Kashima is Saga’s only sake brewing area. The brewers and the city government formed a committee last spring to promote Kashima sake and attract people to the scenic city. Brewers have been making sake in Kashima since the Edo era, and in Sept. 2011, the city’s own Fukuchiyo Shuzo won the grand prize at the International Wine Challenge for its Nabeshima Daiginjo sake. Limited edition sets of fresh sake (six 300 ml bottles), complete with a sake cup, will be available for ¥5,000. Direct inquires to the Kashima City Tourism Association at 050-3693-8012.
