Department stores in Fukuoka City report greater recoveries in sales compared to those in other regions in Japan. According to the Japan Department Stores Association, November sales at Fukuoka City-based department stores reached ¥16.2 billion, only a 7.2 % decline from the same month in 2019. While C19 infection spikes continue in the areas of Tokyo (Nov. sales: -17.8%,) Sapporo (-33.3%) and other urban cities, comparatively stable COVID-19 situations in Fukuoka are thought to have contributed to greater sales.
