Seamen’s Union Blocks Use of JR Queen Beetle for Domestic Voyages

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism regarding plans to use the JR Kyushu Queen Beetle for domestic tours. The newest ship belonging to JR Kyushu Jet Ferry Inc. was built overseas (in Australia) to reduce costs. While national laws prohibit foreign vessels from operating domestic-only tours, an exception was made for Queen Beetle amidst the shutdown of international travel. Expeditions on the Queen Beetle have not sailed since the ‘Go To’ tourism promotion campaign’s nationwide cancelation. Source: The Japan Maritime Daily
