The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has recognized a total of 27 regional airports throughout the country which have been actively attracting visitors to Japan. The seven located in Kyushu are based in Kitakyushu, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima. Airline companies that create new international routes or add additional flights will be exempt for a portion of their landing fees for up to three years. Kyushu’s geographical proximity to the rest of Asia has meant that more overseas airlines are considering the possibility of opening new flight paths with the region, which would increase the number of international tourists visiting Japan.
