Seven Major Companies to End Group Donations

Seven major Kyushu companies, including Kyushu Electric, the Bank of Fukuoka, and Nishitetsu, formed a group called the Goyukai in the 1950s for several objectives, including the informal exchange of information. They also created a framework for regional donations, but ended that this summer. The poor financial performance of Kyushu Electric Power, one of the most important companies, was seen as the trigger, but the Nishinippon Shimbun reports that the diversification of the regional economy has caused the meaning of the group to wane.
