Shiki Theatre Company Pulls Out of Canal City

Shiki Theatre Company announced the termination of its contract with Canal City Theatre. The national theater production firm, also known as Gekidan Shiki, opened the first private theater in Kyushu in 1996. Their performances of “The Lion King” and other titles consistently attracted large audiences during the past three years, until the impact of the new coronavirus forced them to cancel all stage activities in February 2020. Shiki Theatre still has scheduled performances of “Mamma Mia!” and other titles from Oct. 1, 2020, until their contract ends on May 31, 2022. Source: Shiki / Nikkei
