Shin Idemitsu, a top oil seller in Kyushu headquartered in Fukuoka City, is growing its electric bike-sharing service called Rakusuku. Launched in November 2022 with initially 300 members, it now has 6,200 members. The service targets commuters who find the distance too long for a bike but too short for a car. In light of the waning prospects for the oil industry due to a societal push for decarbonization, Shin Idemitsu is accelerating new business ventures. As of September 1, Rakusuku has 66 designated “ports” in Fukuoka City with a total of 190 electric bikes available. Users register via the LINE app and can unlock bikes using a barcode system at these ports. Helmets are also provided. The service offers multiple pricing options, including a per-minute charge and a 24-hour plan. Plans for future expansion include increasing the number of ports to 100 and the bike fleet to 240 by the end of fiscal year 2023. Source: Rakusuku
