The Kyushu District Transport Bureau revealed that the volume of goods unloaded at the 23 designated regional ports in Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture in FY 2009 totaled 157.30 million tons. This was a 5.7% decline from the previous year, and the second consecutive year-on-year decline. Signs of a recovery began to appear in the second half, but they were not able to offset the major declines of the first half caused by the downturn in the global economy.
