Shortage of Hospital Beds in Fukuoka for Covid-19 Patients

The shortage of hospital beds in Fukuoka to treat COVID-19 patients has become a matter of urgency. While the prefectural capacity remains as 66 beds at 12 medical institutions, the total number of COVID-19 patients has reached 119 as of April 3. Instead of treatment inside hospitals patients with mild symptoms are at home in Kitakyushu City, as well as three in Fukuoka City. In response, the Mayor of Fukuoka City disclosed at a press conference on Apr. 3 that the city has begun steps to prepare hotels (and similar facilities) for patients with mild symptoms.
