Shortage of JHS Teachers in Fukuoka City

Fukuoka Prefecture is facing severe teacher shortages. The national government reported 1,591 schools across the nation suffered the situation as of May 1, 2021, and among them were 13.8% of elementary schools and 20.0% of junior-high schools in Fukuoka Prefecture. Indeed, Fukuoka City resulted in the most severe shortage of JHS teachers at 59. It was due to the increasing number of employees who take maternity and paternity leaves and sick leaves and a reduced number of individuals who aspire to get educational jobs. The level of competition for getting an ES teacher job in Fukuoka City was 1.9 for the academic year of 2021. Source: Yomiuri / Sankei / Asahi
