A research group at Fukuoka Institute of Technology reported a significant decline in the amount of particulate matter in the air in the highlands of Oita and Miyazaki prefectures. The team analyzed monthly data of the air between December 2019 to April 2020 and discovered that less than one-tenth of nitrogen oxides (NOx) was found recently compared to its peak times in the past ten years. The change is considered to reflect reduced business activities in China since the lockdown of Wuhan in mid-January due to the spread of the new coronavirus. Source: NHK
