Six Fukuoka Riot Police Referred Over Misconduct

Fukuoka Prefectural Police referred six members of the Second Riot Police Unit to prosecutors for allegedly forcing a junior colleague to undress and be touched during an off-duty gathering in Kumamoto last year. One officer was also accused of assault for urinating on a junior colleague in Fukuoka. All six admitted to the allegations. Additional hazing was confirmed, including pouring food on an intoxicated officer and ordering winter pool dives to retrieve weighted blankets. Police dismissed a 24-year-old instructor and disciplined 15 personnel, including supervisors. In a separate case, a Kasuya Police Station employee was dismissed and referred for stealing stored IC cards and hoarding roughly 280 items. Police leadership apologized and promised stronger training and oversight. Source: TNC
