Sony and TSMC establish ¥747 billion Kumamoto sensor venture

Sony Group and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) have announced a joint venture in Kumamoto with combined investment exceeding ¥700 billion. The venture will develop and manufacture next-generation image sensors for smartphone cameras. Sony will invest ¥465 billion for a roughly 60% stake, while TSMC will invest ¥282 billion for about 40%, with development equipment and production lines installed at Sony Semiconductor Solutions’ plant in Koshi.
