Special Fukubukuro “Mystery Bags” for Sale at Hakata Daimaru

This year Hakata Daimaru will be selling 30,000 premium fukubukuro (lucky bags). Fukubukuro is a Japanese New Year custom in which stores fill bags with products and sell all the goods inside at a discounted price. One of the lucky bags (price yet to be fixed) will include a game of shogi with Fukuoka-native Taku Morishita, a professional ninth-level ranked player. Five other bags (each costing ¥21,600) will include special seating area tickets for the Road of Light viewing this spring at Miyajidake Jinja Shrine, Fukutsu City. A behind-the-scenes experience at Marine World will also be featured in 10 bags (¥4,320 each). The sale will begin at 9:00 on Jan. 2. Source: Tenjin Keizai Shimbun, 12/11/2017
