Star Wars Roof Tile Unveiled in Kurume

A traditional Jojima onigawara roof tile featuring a Star Wars character was unveiled at Kurume City Hall on May 18 ahead of the latest film release on May 22. The piece was commissioned by the film’s distributor and created by local craftsman Takuji Ichikawa using techniques tied to Jojima onigawara, a traditional craft with a history of about 400 years in Kurume. The finished work measures roughly 50 centimeters wide and 40 centimeters high and features the smoky silver finish characteristic of the craft. The artwork will later be displayed at cinemas in Kurume and Fukuoka City. Source: NHK News / Star Wars (TM & © Lucasfilm Ltd. All Rights Reserved)
