Kitakyushu-based StarFlyer announced that it will begin flights between Fukuoka and Kansai International Airport on Oct. 1. With discounted fares as low as ¥4,500 one-way, the company will attempt to compete with other low-cost carriers and the Shinkansen. The new route will be StarFlyer’s fifth, and it plans to offer four round-trip flights daily. The regular price will be ¥14,000 one-way, but customers who book at least 28 days in advance can buy tickets for prices ranging from ¥4,500 to ¥6,000. To commemorate the new route, StarFlyer will offer a limited number of seats at ¥1,000 until Oct. 26. The company, which will be competing directly with ANA and two other low-cost carriers, is aiming for ridership of at least 70%. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, July 31
