Starflyer First in Japan to Buy Airbus A320 with Sharklet

Kitakyushu based airline, Starflyer, has announced it will purchase an Airbus A320. The new airplane will arrive in June 2013, and will be the first Airbus A320 with “sharklets” purchased in Japan. The new plane’s wing resembles a shark’s fin, earning it the name “sharklet”. This wing design has the same function as a Boeing model’s “winglet”– reducing air resistance for improved fuel efficiency. Starflyer currently has seven airplanes and is planning on increasing this number to 12 by 2015. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun Dec 6
