Fukuoka City Subway to Increase Weekday Airport Line Services

To ease rush hour congestion, Fukuoka City Subway will add 19 round trips to the Airport Line on weekdays starting March 15. The decision comes amid population growth and the recovery of international tourism, both contributing to crowding during peak hours.

This marks the largest service increase since the line’s extension to Fukuoka Airport in 1993. The added trips include seven round trips between Meinohama and Fukuoka Airport stations from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 12 round trips from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. As a result, average train intervals will be reduced by 10 to 20 seconds in the morning (to 2 minutes 50 seconds – 3 minutes 30 seconds) and by 40 seconds to 1 minute 20 seconds in the evening (to 3 minutes 20 seconds – 4 minutes 30 seconds).

The expansion is made possible by the introduction of new train cars this fiscal year. The city is also considering increasing services on the Nanakuma Line. Mayor Takashima expressed confidence that passengers would notice a tangible reduction in evening congestion. Source: Fukuoka City Subway / NHK
