Sun Palace to Make Way for New Hotel/Event Facility

As part of Fukuoka City’s plan to redevelop the Waterfront area, Sun Palace will be demolished to make way for a new event hall. Originally opened in 1981, Sun Palace consists of an event hall and hotel. Under the plan, the new facility will serve as the “gateway” to the Waterfront. It will house a hotel and a 2,322-seat hall, and the City’s slated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) road system will pass through the site to connect Marine Messe to Tenjin and Hakata. Fukuoka has ranked number two in Japan in the number of international conferences hosted for six years running, and it aims to respond to increased demand for conferences and other large-scale events with the new facility. The City’s plan will be finalized by the end of March, after it’s received construction proposals from various companies. Source: Asahi Shimbun
